Peguis K4-12 School

Manasc Isaac Architects

Project Description

The Peguis First Nation, located north of Winnipeg, is the largest First Nation community in Manitoba. This new K4-12 school, constructed in two phases, will accommodate 1000 students in 8800 m2 of floor space. This includes 29 classrooms, 4 kindergarten rooms, 2 science rooms, computer room, library, home economics, industrial arts, multi-purpose room and a gymnasium.

Phase I, now complete, includes the elementary and kindergarten wing. A two storey, load-bearing masonry structure has clerestorey windows to the upper walkway. A large overhang along the south facade and a roofed walkway from the kindergarten to the main entrance will provide seasonal protection.

The use of colour in the masonry and steel sun shading elements will make this a bright and cheerful place to visit, work and learn in, while expressing the culture of the community.

Construction will begin in the Spring of 1998 on Phase II which includes the junior and senior high school wings, gymnasium, home economics, industrial arts and support areas.
