McKenzie Towne Fire Hall

Project Description

Situated on a triangular shaped lot forming one portion of a radial plan in the Mckenzie Towne Development of south east Calgary, the Mckenzie Towne Fire Hall is sited to allow for the most efficient dispatch of fire trucks, but also to centre the west elevation along the long axis of Mckenzie Towne Boulevard.

Keeping with the general architectural character of the proposed neighbourhood, the Mckenzie Towne Fire Hall's design reflects an historic aesthetic sensibility. Within this recreated historic context, elements such as the cornice are and dentils are historical in form yet contemporary in materials and construction. The entrances, public spaces, offices and dorms are on the south side to maximize the natural daylight penetration. The landscape design is intended to provide shade, visual screening devices and visual interest to the site.

Overall the design is in keeping with the architectural theme of this new and vibrant community.
