Calgary Convention Centre Renovations

Graham Edmunds Architecture

Project Description

The renovation of the Calgary Convention Centre provides a greater diversity of services through the addition of meeting spaces, client service areas and administration areas. The renovations bring with them technological advancements such as CAT 5 and fibre optic communication systems as well as offers a facility which has the character and flexibility demanded by delegates.

Unlike many construction projects, this one had to be completed within short period of time and without shutdown of the existing facility. Crews worked around the clock during the Christmas holidays in 1996, on weekends, and often with Convention Centre guests only metres away.

Six flexible, large new meeting rooms have been created which can also serve as small banquet halls, lecture theatres or display spaces. A new stairwell connects the existing lower floor with the +15 level at the south end of the building giving patrons direct access to the business centre and Stephen Avenue Mall. The Calgary Convention Centre can now boast of efficient, client friendly meeting rooms and office spaces!
